Help plant Mangroves for protecting coastal lives !
BEDS is participating in the GivingTuesday fundraising campaign on 1st December, 2020 through the world’s renowned fundraising platform GlobalGiving! BEDS’ goal is to raise US$50,000 for mangrove restoration in the Sundarbans.
GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. On this day, GlobalGiving matches every dollar donated, which is an additional benefit for the participating organisations’ work. BEDS intends to raise US$50,000 for mangrove restoration in the Sundarbans coastal region of Bangladesh on GivingTuesday.
We know that mangrove forests of the tropical coasts are among the most important and productive ecosystems on earth. Among other things, their gigantic carbon storage potential means that they play an enormously important role in stabilizing the world's climate and protecting the coasts. Mangroves act as a shelter belt and protect the coastal people from cyclones. In recent decades, however, mangrove forests have been severely decimated. A total of 35% of the mangrove forests have been reduced since 1980s from the world because of excessive human interference and every year 2.1% mangroves are decreasing (Ref: FAO 2003).
Sundarbans is the single largest mangrove forest in the world. Sundarbans provides significant on-going ecological processes as it represent the process such as monsoon rains, flooding, delta formation, tide influence, plant colonization and diversified habitat and breeding place for flora and fauna. Sundarbans is at serious risk of losing its origin from the world due to diverse human activities. Biodiversity is also decreased due to lack of mangroves. As a result, shortage of Mangrove and climate change impact together accelerates the volume of vulnerability of the coastal area especially river erosion.
We have a plan to plant 2,50,000 mangroves in the Sundarbans coastal region of Bangladesh to save the coastal lives. Please participate on GivingTuesday by donating to BEDS. Your each US$1 will be used for planting 1 mangrove tree and its long term protection, so donate as much as you can on GivingTuesday to us. By doing this, we will save the Sundarbans, and leave Earth as a healthy planet for our future generations!
We will share the link to donate just before December 1st, 2020.
Please stay with us and help to plant mangroves.
